Tana River County was among the most affected counties by floods. Floods phenomenon has become frequent in Kenya occurring every year.
In 2018, Chewele and Nanighi communities who had settled near the river banks had their houses submerged and household items destroyed by water, animals killed, crops destroyed and their farms silted.
Besides, the communities were also hit by water borne diseases such as cholera and also pneumonia to mention but a few. IAS K was able to intervene by distributing the food and non-food items and enabled access to clean safe water that set them up for 6 months.
This was for 1,245 Households (HHs) with 3,735 people within this community.
